Our Community
Fissta
We in FISSTA are an all Ireland angling body representing over 15,000 members in 84 salmon and sea trout (salmonid) clubs. As an umbrella body for anglers it is a strong voice for the conservation of salmon both nationally and internationally.
Our motto is "Committed to Conservation" and continue to work to achieve the abundant return of the wild Atlantic salmon to our waters.
FISSTA are one of the founder members and first contributor to the North Atlantic Salmon Fund and we have campaigned for the Irish Government to support the NASF propossals put forward by Chairman Orri Vigfusson to extend his buyout scheme for driftnets to our coastline.
FISSTA have Non Government status at the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation (NASCO) annual meeting, the next to be held in Spain in May 2001.
As a founding member of Save Our Sea trout (SOS) FISSTA continue to campaign for pollution free waters and have opposed the unrestricted development of fish farming in our estuaries at the expense of our salmon and seatrout.
We are also founding members of the European Anglers Alliance.
FISSTA are the only recognised angling organisation exclusively devoted to the conservation of salmon and sea trout and are the strong voice of change for anglers to the Government and EU.
